FAQs
What is the difference between a Clinical Psychologist and a general Psychologist?
A Clinical Psychologist with RCI registration undergoes rigorous training, including an M.Phil. in Clinical Psychology, which qualifies them to provide advanced psychological assessments, diagnose mental health disorders, and offer specialized interventions. General psychologists, on the other hand, primarily focus on therapy , counseling and do not diagnose clinical conditions.
Why is there a price difference between a Consultant Psychologist and a Clinical Psychologist?
Clinical Psychologists undergo specialized training (MPhil) and are licensed to provide advanced assessments, evidence-based therapies, and diagnostic services. This additional expertise and scope of work often reflects in their consultation fee compared to Consultant Psychologists.
Can a Clinical Psychologist give a diagnosis?
Yes. Clinical Psychologists are trained to assess, identify, and diagnose a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and mental health conditions using standardized tools and psychological assessments.
Do I need to see a Clinical Psychologist or a Consultant Psychologist?
It depends on your needs. If you are looking for therapy, emotional support, or guidance for common concerns like stress, relationships, or lifestyle challenges, a Consultant Psychologist may be the right fit. If you need clinical assessment, diagnosis, or treatment for more complex mental health conditions (such as depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, or developmental concerns), a Clinical Psychologist is better suited.
Can Clinical Psychologists prescribe medication?
No. Clinical Psychologists do not prescribe medication. They provide psychological assessments and therapies. If medication is needed, they may collaborate with a Psychiatrist, who is a medical doctor specialized in mental health.
